Deep Within By Christine Swiderski

Deep within

Human jungle, corrupt hearts
Maneuvering its treacherous streets,
Smokey soot crusted buildings,
Boarded windows dulled hued lives.
As a panther stalks his prey,
Politicians angle to take advantage.
Growling out the woes of the down trodden.
Pocketing the monetary answers.
Leaving the jungle to fend for itself.
Feral humans plot to take from their own.
Decrying the woes of their neighbors.
Dusky light remains implanted by need.
No where else to go they stand and fight.
Frail illusory light beckons for ears to hear.
Wondering if ears are filled with soot
Dulling the hearing as well as hearts.
