Muck and Mire By Christine Swiderski

Apr. 20, 2016

I want to be as a child
not bedded down in the mire
Muck boots worn
Splatter on a cuff
Sucking sound
As I pull my foot
From the ground
I can splash in a puddle
There is no muddle
Awash is the sound
From the ground
No irate banter
Laughter said
“How fun to be a kid”
